I hope that you and your family have had an enjoyable and restful half term.
This half term we are embarking on a new topic about Journeys.
Visits to the airport, local shops and Paultons Park have been planned to help the children learn first hand from experience about travel and their local environment.
The children will be able to enjoy a range of fiction and non-fiction books including ‘New Blue Shoes’, ’Bear’s Adventure’, ‘ Where’s William?’, ‘The Train Ride’, ‘ Who Sank the Boat?’, ‘Whatever Next’ and ‘Lucy and Tom at the Seaside’.
During the last half term the children really enjoyed the role play area being a ‘Toy Shop’ and were able to enjoy acting as customers and shop keepers. The role play area will change into a Travel Agents and Cafe to help the children gain a greater awareness of other places in the world.
In P.S.H.E. and R.E. the children will explore how they feel about things that change and how to respond when something is new.
In Geography we will be learning about the key features of our local environment through practical exploration. Time will be spent making a 3 dimensional map that will include a river, hills, roads and houses.
There will be opportunities in Art to learn how to do ‘wet on wet’ with watercolours, how to block paint with acrylics and how to do bark rubbing with wax crayons. Our work will be used to create a large display in the classroom based on the pictures from ‘The Train Ride’ story book.
The focus in P.E. will be on Athletics. We hope to enjoy the summer sunshine by playing games outside that will develop our gross motor skills.
Thank you for sending your child’s PE kit in on Wednesday and swimming costume in on Friday.
The Interactive White Board and desktop computers are used on a daily basis in class to support all subjects. We will spend extra time learning how to use the Smart Table and a digital camera independently and then use photographic soft wear to present our work.
The final Parents Evening in July will not only be an opportunity to discuss the end of year report but also a chance to see all the wonderful photographs on a slideshow of your child working hard during this academic year. |
